Southwest Airlines adds flight service to New Orleans

It seems like a huge victory for New Orleans as Southwest Airlines reports that they will increase their presence in this city with a 114 daily flights by 9th March, 2013. This thirty five percent addition in August brings around 1.5 million extra seats in the market annually.

At present, Southwest operates seventy six flights from New Orleans. AirTran Airways, which is fully owned subsidiary of Southwest Airlines, operates 8 flights on a daily basis. Southwest states that they will also serve Key West and Newark from New Orleans; and AirTran will start serving Orlando. On the March schedule, each place will have a daily non – stop flight. The schedule for February the flight frequency also increases in cities like St. Louis, Nashville, Fort Lauderdale and Dallas Love.

Mitch Landrieu, the Mayor of New Orleans, told that the extra air service is a huge victory for the city. He believes that it reveals that the New Orleans’ demand for business travel and leisure is quite strong. Demand is actually the key in getting air service for the city and this only adds to the recent confidence shown in the airport and the region.

Nolan Rollins, the Chairman of the Aviation Board, told that Southwest Airlines has have made an assurance of support to the market of New Orleans with the assed air service. On New Orleans Aviation Board’s behalf, he also expressed their thanks for the vote of confidence in their city as a popular destination.
