Southern Airways Express to start Birmingham-New Orleans flight

A low-cost 'flight' which first came to the city of Birmingham in the year 2013 just as a start-up is now looking to fill in an air travel gap.

Starting later this year, the Southern Airways Express will start daily flights from Shuttlesworth International Airport, Birmingham to New Orleans Lakefront Airport, said the company COO Keith Sisson.

The airline, based in Memphis, deals with a fleet of 9-passenger turboprop flights along with executive-kind of seating as well as utlizes Atlantic Aviation private terminal on east end of airport located near Southern Museum of Flight. Well, this is the very second time that the Southern has added service to New Orleans, earlier doing so on a seasonal path along with continuing service to Destin, Florida.

Apart from the season, the flight did o't always have a lot of passengers for its 2nd leg to and from Florida. The non-seasonal, under-2 hour air path to New Orleans would be sustainable throughout the year, said Sisson. This path is just a natural, said Sisson said, showing natural leisure travel as well as business links between these two places.

In the year 2013, Birmingham lost their direct flights to New Orleans when Southwest Airlines broke off the direct path. Also, the city lost service to Jacksonville, Florida, at that time. Sisson told that the Southern is looking into a beginning service between Birmingham as well as St. Augustine, Jacksonville, in the next year or in one and a half year.
